*** UPDATE 22/03/2021 - we have started calling patients from JCVI Priority Groups 7-9 - we will also be offering second doses for Groups 1-9 in the coming weeks - please note, the practices in North & Central Southport are not taking part in Phase 2 of the vaccination programme (adults aged under 50) - instead, we will focus on catching up with any chronic disease management that has been delayed by the pandemic ***

The Corner Surgery has joined with the other practices in North & Central Southport to set up a Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination site.  The project is being co-ordinated by Southport & Formby CCG on our behalf.  Please do not contact us with any questions about the vaccination programme - the NHS will get in touch when it is your turn to be vaccinated.

Vaccination is taking place at Southport Centre for Health & Wellbeing, 44-46 Houghton Street, PR9 0PQ.  There are car park facilities & signs/marshalls will be available to help you navigate around the site.  Please arrive as close as possible to your appointment time & please wear a face covering.  If necessary, you may bring one other person with you as a chaperone.  Please do not attend if you are unwell on the day or following isolation rules.

The order in which people will be offered the vaccine is based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination & Immunisation (JCVI) about who is most at risk from Coronavirus.  When each delivery of vaccine is received, it will be shared out fairly between practices in North & Central Southport. You may be required to remain on site for 15 minutes post-vaccination & a second dose of vaccine will be required; usually after 12 weeks.

Phase 1 - JCVI Priority Groups

  1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
  3. all those 75 years of age and over
  4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
  5. all those 65 years of age and over
  6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  7. all those 60 years of age and over
  8. all those 55 years of age and over
  9. all those 50 years of age and over

Please note, there are a number of other vaccination sites who may offer you an appointment too: the large national sites, the community pharmacy sites & the Southport hospital site (health & social care workers are being vaccinated at the latter). The speed with which we can work through the JCVI priority cohorts is limited by the amount of vaccine that our site is allocated, & the need to vaccinate care home patients/staff first (no other sites are helping us with this & Southport has an unusually large care home population).

The Corner Surgery & our staff are excited to be taking part in this project, which should finally help us to move on from the pandemic & return to normal life.  However, in order for us to prioritise the project & supply staff as vaccinators, some of our less urgent activity at the Surgery is likely to be postponed from time to time.  Thank you very much in anticipation of your support & understanding.
